I’m a fine art photographer with a passion for details, close-ups, and macro studies. I also have a fascination with musical instruments that borders on obsession. I do photograph many other subjects, some of which you'll find on display here, but I keep coming back to instruments for their unique character and infinite variety.

In 2007 I received a “Good Idea Grant” from the Maine Arts Commission for a long-term photo project I started in 2005. That project, The Music You Can’t Hear: An Exploration of the Luthier’s Craft, showcases the work and traditions of Maine’s stringed instrument builders. Click on the Strings Project gallery to explore this body of work.

I have added sections to my "image orchestra" by way of instrument portrait commissions. I’ve done these for parents of serious young musicians as a complement to their traditional senior portraits. Families ask me to do these projects because I see the instruments as so much more than shaped wood or metal. They are the musicians’ treasured friends, their partners in art.

On a personal note, my home life is enriched by my husband, our daughter, our German Shepherd, good friends, many books and copious dog hair. I passionately believe in the vital role the arts play in building culture, encouraging collaboration, and transcending borders. Because the marks we make and the stories we tell are as important to our lives as the goods and services we sell to make a living.

I hope you'll leave a note in the guestbook to share your thoughts and let me know you stopped by. Thanks!
